Ways to save money in 2016

Looking to be more frugal with your expenses this year but still want to enjoy socialising? Follow the Tiger Sheds top tips for saving money in the new year and you won’t have to give anything up!

Enjoy half price offers at restaurants

As most people want to stay in through January some restaurants knock their prices down and offer some amazing deals! It’s worth spending some time to see what offers are happening where you live, maybe try out a place you wouldn’t normally go?

Here are some of our favourites:

Leeds

Blackhouse – 50% off for up to six people throughout January, except after 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Alchemist – 50% off all week long except after 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Box – 50% off food

London

The Rib Room – A Rib of Beef Burger and drink for only £12.

Opera Tavern – 30 % off food

Cinnamon Kitchen – For lunch and dinner this January the restaurant is offering two courses for £16 and three courses for £19 – both with a Winter Martini

Manchester

Scene –  50 % off food except for drinks and on Sundays

The Botanist – 50% off food, must book online, not valid on Saturdays, on the children’s menu or for parties of more than six people.

The Pen and Pencil – 50% off excluding the bottomless brunch, advance booking is required.

Bring your own bottle restaurants

Also, have a look around for restaurants where you can bring your own bottle!

Penny Saving Challenge

A new trend began this year and it’s called The Penny Saving Challenge.

It’s so simple and a fantastic way to easily save money throughout the year.

All you need to do is save a penny every day and it goes up a penny each day. So day one save 1p, day two save 2p day three save 3p…etc. Just like in the image above!

Everyone in the Tiger Sheds office is doing it so why not give it a go?

Dry January

When you do Dry January you will surprise yourself by how much money you will save.

When you’re out for dinner, ask for water, when you go on a night out, enjoy mocktails, and when you’re at home try out some tasty non-alcoholic beverages. Most non-alcoholic drinks tend to be cheaper but you more than likely won’t drink as much non alcoholic drinks so end up saving money.

Sales Sales Sales

First of all, if you’re not a disciplined person when it comes to shopping stay away from the sales! They’re made to bring you into the shop so you will also look at the items not in the sale. But if you are, then the January sales can be a dream!

Online shopping for sales is a great way to not be distracted by the items not in the sale and often it’s cheaper to buy online.

Some shops which are offering great items in the sales:

New Look

Topshop

Jack & Jones

Debenhams

Tiger Sheds (of course)

Sell

Remember that expensive suit you bought and never wore? Or that Christmas present you really don’t need?

January is the perfect time to have big clear out and make some money from the things you don’t use or want.

If you’re thinking, I don’t have anything. Make it a game. Go home and try to find 3 objects/clothes that you could live without. Ask yourself, do I really need them?

There are a crazy amount of sites that will sell your items for you, but the most people still stand to be eBay, Amazon and Gumtree. But Facebook is also becoming a really popular way to sell items!

Budget!!

On a final note, the best way to save money is definitely to budget.

The most efficient way to do this can be using a spreadsheet. Simply break up all your expenses on a spreadsheet and then you can see exactly where your money is going and how much you have left over. Try to put some money aside in case of an emergency or to treat yourself for getting through another month!

How will you save money this year?
